Synopsis
Featuring an in-person Q&A with “SR.” producer and cinematographer Kevin Ford, and AFS Artistic Director Richard Linklater. Robert Downey, Sr., one of the most iconoclastic and influential independent filmmakers of the 1960s and 1970s, is the subject of this new documentary which was initiated and produced by his famous Hollywood superstar son, Robert Downey, Jr. Jr. sets out to make a film about the filmmaker whose irreverence and dedication to subversive art made him a hero of the underground with films like PUTNEY SWOPE and GREASER’S PALACE; at the same time, he’s a son trying to connect and understand his dad in the twilight of his life. Director Chris Smith (American Movie) turns this effort into an unforgettable portrait of an indie film legend and an intimate, heartfelt tale of a unique father-son relationship.
