About this archive

AFS Archive is a catalogue of films screened by the Austin Film Society, built by scraping their listings and cross-referencing each title against TMDB. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with AFS.

Screening dates come from two places. Current listings are read directly from the AFS site. Older ones are inferred from Internet Archive captures of pages that are no longer up, and are marked as such wherever they appear — they show roughly when AFS was advertising a film, not a confirmed showtime.

Howdy

Thanks for checking out this site and a special thanks to everyone in the Austin reddit thread that pointed out issues when I first made this public. AFS is scraped daily for new screenings, any that are not linked to a TMDB entry with high confidence is relegated to me for manual curation. This changelog page will update once a week with new entries added into the database. I have at all cost attempted to preserve the synopsis and movie poster from AFS. These have been modified when either the poster is no longer accessible or the synopsis was omitted or contained missing or broken information (sometimes the synopsis would be information on attending SXSW events). Some quick things about what this is and isn't. This is, to the best of my ability, a reference for films and shows screened at Austin Film Society. This means that in some instances special director events and screenings, like Eyeslicer, have been hidden due to a lack of information. Specials that included many small clips from television are also omitted at this time, but I'll consider adding them back if I can do so in an organized fashion. This is not to be taken as Gospel. In attempting to link films to TMDB I have, on occasion, needed to take liberties with the items pulled. An example would be combining all five individual entries for 'Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day' into a single page. I'm human and I will make mistakes Instead of using this site as a reference I would encourage you to instead navigate and search through https://www.austinfilm.org/films/ to use as your source of truth. One trick I've been using is copying the full synopsis text into google with the keywords 'afs' and 'austin', this will usually bring me to the screening page I'm looking for. At this moment I don't have the ability for feedback outside of the reddit post that I'll track a bit longer. Adding a comment or suggestion action to make me aware of issues with the entries is high on the list of things to figure out. I appreciate you visiting and I'll hopefully have easier means of reaching out in the future. Cheers, ~cabbage
