Synopsis

Mute pianist Ada (Holly Hunter) arrives in colonial New Zealand with her daughter (Anna Paquin) for an arranged marriage. When her domineering husband (Sam Neill) refuses to transport her cherished piano, a frontiersman (Harvey Keitel) offers a deal: land in exchange for the piano and private lessons.
